“WHEN it's your daughter's birthday, you just have to celebrate with a pizza' the action!

With a large family group gathered together, all itching to enjoy themselves, there's only one type of eaterie that offers the exuberant atmosphere to match - and that's an Italian.

And Carlo's in Albert Road, Colne, does not let you down.

With a Mediterranean decor; lovely, warm Italian staff and mouthwatering cuisine, I could have been back on holiday on the shores of Lake Garda.

The restaurant offers pizza and pasta nights for just £3.95 on Mondays and Wednesdays, so you don't have to break the bank to enjoy that special buzz you always seem to get from your local pizzeria.

We all had starters first, however, from my mushrooms in a white wine and garlic sauce, to mum's beautifully sliced melon with fruit compote and the birthday girl's home-made pate with melba toast - all polished off with rounds of succulent garlic bread and Italian red.

Carlo's pizzas are wonderful, with light bases, lots of topping and of such a generous size, you could share one and still be full.

I opted, though, for a tangy and tomatoey canneloni, although my better half's seafood spaghetti looked scrumptious, packed with such delicacies as king prawns and mussels”.
